Tetris Couldn't Triumph at The Game Awards — A New Category Might Solve This

Whenever a prominent honors show draws close, one notices a clamor for introducing additional classifications to recognize overlooked contributions and satisfy the spirits of followers with niche passions.

My colleague made the case supporting a scary games classification. That would be fantastic. Equally deserving are strategy board titles, this being a passionate advocate's mission. Yet I need to apologize in advance when I prioritize since similar to dedicated enthusiasts, I have a cast-iron argument for why my demand is the most urgent above others. Here's the proposal: We need a classification for brain-teasing titles.

The Genre Classification Challenge

Organizing artistic expressions defies precise measurement; opinions vary greatly, and it will always start arguments resulting in unclear classifications. There’s a reason film award organizations don’t do it. But it is an essential concession in the world of gaming, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to gain proper attention, while allowing diverse titles to have a chance for representation, specific award classifications remain vital.

Existing Game Classification System

Prominent interactive entertainment events offer these award types recognizing Action-oriented games, Adventure-action titles, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, and Sports/Racing games. Together, these classifications successfully include many game types, allowing placement accommodating various experiences.

This doesn't apply to puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Think about these recent excellent titles, all very different: the architectural riddles in a particular game, the pulse-pounding block-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges of a third title. Which classification works within current classifications? Simply put, no category fits.

Recognition Challenges

There are dozens of brilliant puzzle games released every year lacking appropriate categories in entertainment awards, unless they happen to qualify classification types such as Mobile Game, Virtual reality experiences, or the extremely competitive independent game categories.

  • An iconic brain-teaser received no recognition for anything during that awards season
  • Another creative title received no nominations that year
  • A beloved organization game received no acknowledgment that year
  • Just some logic titles barely qualified for small studio or handheld classifications

Significance of Puzzle Games

Frequently they represent small games, yet the craft of the puzzle game is of massive significance. Famous handheld logic titles stand as the most-played games worldwide and have been for many years.

The famous puzzle experience challenges well-known building titles claiming status as highest-selling title ever; it also contends for top gaming experience. Logic titles represent cornerstones to the art of video games, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face this problem. One could readily select multiple candidates with fascinating, diverse, deserving games annually without trouble — or rather, with difficulty, since numerous excellent numerous deserving experiences.

And to reiterate, these include experiences lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Brain-teaser creators operate at the challenging frontier interactive creation, developing some of the purest expressions within interactive entertainment. Just like cinema stunt performers, they warrant appreciation. Let’s not keep them waiting 35 years.
